Chapter Philanthropy Events
In addition to the many individual activities that members of our house participate in, the chapter as a whole contributes to the community through a number of events:
Derby Days is a means for Sigma Chi chapters to do their part in being the generation to end cancer
Sigma Chi Derby Days
Every year, chapters of Sigma Chi around the nation participate in a week-long philanthropy event called Derby Days.
Philanthropy events in the past have included profit shares with a local Evanston restaurants as well arts and crafts nights to support local childrens’ hospitals.
Sigma Chi Nu aims to deempahsize the competitive aspects of the week and open the events to individuals in any student organization (that is, not limiting participation to Greek participants).
Funds raised through the 2026 NUDM campaign will support Bear Necessities’ wide range of programs, including their Hope Education Scholarship Program and “Bear Hugs” initiative
Dance Marathon
Dance Marathon is a campus-wide, student-run philanthropic event thrown every year at Northwestern. NUDM is one of the only annual Dance Marathons in the US to have a different beneficiary every year, and over 52 years, NUDM has managed to raise over $23 million for a wide variety of causes. This year, NUDM will be contributing to Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
Bear Necessities is a Chicago-based non-profit that supports children battling cancer and their families with holistic, family-centered services that address the emotional, financial, psychosocial and educational challenges of a pediatric cancer diagnosis.
Sigma Chi Nu will be showing up to support Bear Necessities!
