Chapter Philanthropy Events

In addition to the many individual activities that members of our house participate in, the chapter as a whole contributes to the community through a number of events:

Sigma Chi Derby Days

Every year, chapters of Sigma Chi around the nation participate in a week-long philanthropy event called Derby Days. This year, Omega Chapter started its first ever partnership with the La Rabida Children’s Hospital and raised $21,000 for their hospital.

Philanthropy events included the return of previously successful events such as a profit share with Todoroki, a local Evanston restaurant, as well as the addition of new events such as an arts and crafts night where posters and art packages were made for La Rabida patients. The major change this year was an overall effort to deempahsize competitive aspects of the week and opening the events to individuals in any student organization (that is, not limiting participation to Greek participants). With the help of brothers, other NU students, and EX alumni, we were able to present La Rabida with a check for $21,000 as well as more than 200 arts and crafts packages.

Dance Marathon

Dance Marathon is a campus-wide student run philanthropic event thrown every year at Northwestern. NUDM is one of the only annual Dance Marathons in the US to have a different beneficiary every year and has raised over $1 million every year for the past 6 years. This year, NUDM contributed to Communities in Schools (CIS) For Chicago.

This year, NUDM raised over 1.2 million dollars and Sigma Chi partnered with Northwestern’s Alpha Phi chapter to form the APEX team and collectively raised $65,000 to finish as the fourth highest fundraising team.
